I'll be out with everyone else to protest Bush and Talent on Friday. But I had another idea the other day. Bush is coming to KC to raise money for Talent, and protesting on foot won't stop those big checks ($1000 per person!) from rolling in.

But why not use Bush's appearance to raise money for Claire McCaskill? That way, those who can't make it to the protest, and even people across the country, can protest the Bush/Talent machine and help balance out those $1000 checks.

With that in mind, I created an ActBlue page to gather contributions for Claire:

George W. Bush is coming to Kansas City to do a fundraiser for his lackey, Missouri Senator Jim Talent. Admission? Just $1000 per person. While many local residents plan to hit the streets to protest Bush, there's more we can do: contribute to Claire.

Talent already has a huge cash advantage that we need to overcome. As of 7/19/06, Talent had $6.9 million on hand, compared to Claire's $2.7 million. (Source: the Center for Responsive Politics and OpenSecrets.org.

Bush is coming to KC for a fundraiser for Sen. no-Talent on Friday, Sept.8th. Missouri ProVote, along with other local progressive organizations, are planning a huge action for that afternoon/evening,and are requesting that anyone who is able to get off work a little early or arrange their schedule to be in the vicinity of Loose Park by 3:00pm that afternoon, please let me know. We are hoping for a huge turnout! In addition, we need about 50 people that can be at the site EARLY, about 1:30 in the afternoon the day of the protest, in order to 'save the space'. Please contact Pamela Smith at kiteinthewind59@gmail.com if you are able to come at 1:30 or if you have any questions!

The theme of the protest will be Bush's Wars: On Iraq, on the middle class and the poor, on civil liberties, on women, on fair and free elections, etc. The idea is to have one clear, overriding message for the media to report. Some slogans were discussed such as "Raise the Wage, don't Wage the War". Creative input would be greatly appreciated! More details will be forthcoming, but we wanted to get the date and time out to everyone so that arrangements to be there can be made! We will be having our 3rd planning meeting Wed, Sept. 6th at 5:30pm. We will be making signs and banners after the meeting.
