Cass Co. Assessor Curtis Koons (D) announced last week that he will be stepping down as Assessor and taking a job in Kansas City. A reception will be held for Curtis on Monday, September 10 at The Galvez on the Harrisonville Square from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. All are invited to attend. Start: 6:30 pm

This month's Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast meets Saturday, September 15 at The Woodlands, 9700 Leavenworth Road. Our speakers for this month will be former Congressman Dr. Bill Roy and Kansas Alcoholic Beverage Control Director Tom Groneman Dr. Roy was a congressman from 1971 to 1975, representing the Kansas Second District, which included the western half of Wyandotte County at the time. Tom has been the Kansas Alcoholic Beverage Control Director for the past five years. He served as Wyandotte County Register of Deeds for 28 years. Start: 10:00 am

Dave was president of Tri-County AFL-CIO and UAW 31 when he passed away last year. Proceeds from the tournament benefit Cancer Action and Tri-County AFL-CIO Community Service. Mike was an Intelligence Analyst for the US Army and has received the Army Service Medal and the Exemplary Unit Award for the 742nd Battalion. Lend A Hand Plan to join us at a working celebration of one of our region’s most treasured parks: Shawnee Mission Park in Shawnee and Lenexa, Kansas! Staff and volunteers from Bridging The Gap’s affiliates will work with Johnson County Park and Recreation District staff and other community volunteers to clean and beautify the park.
